Reading Olympics is an annual celebration of reading aimed at increasing students’ reading for enjoyment. Ten 5th & 6th grade students collaborated since January to read forty-five books, and at the event they answered questions about these books during three rounds. Fifty points are needed for blue ribbons and The Montessori School’s team earned 64 points!

This year’s performance is a presentation of the Newbury Award Winning book, Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Voices From a Medieval Village by Laura Amy Schlitz.

Step back to an English village in 1255, where life tends to be nasty brutish & short.

Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! plays out in twenty dramatic vignettes illuminating unforgettable characters.

Maidens, monks, snigglers, mendicants and millers’ sons — Upper El will bring them to life for the audience to meet on March 8, 7PM & March 9, 11AM.

For Children’s House Parents:
Spring Observations are scheduled for Friday, February 24th. All three classes are offering a choice of times:
8:30-9:00 AM
9:15-9:45 AM
10:00-10:30 AM

For Toddler Parents:
Spring Observations will begin on Thursday, March 1st to Friday, March 16th. The available times to observe are either 9:15-9:45 AM or 9:45-10:15 AM, excluding Mondays.

For Lower Elementary Parents:
Spring Observations are scheduled for Thursday, March 8th and Friday, March 9th. The times to observe for both days are as follows:
9:00-9:30 AM
9:40-10:10 AM
10:20-10:50 AM
11:00-11:30 AM

For Upper Elementary Parents:
Spring Observations will take place the week of Monday, March 12th. Times will be scheduled in the mornings only, in 30-minute increments.

Spring Conferences will be on Thursday, March 22 and Friday, March 23 before our Spring Break. You will be assigned the same time on day 1 or day 2 that you had for Fall Conferences.

It’s almost time for the Book Fair! This annual event at Barnes & Noble is a fun family evening centered on reading and literacy.

Here’s how it works:

• You shop for books, movies, music, games, NOOK & NOOK accessories, gifts, Café items - anything in the store except gift cards.
• When you check out, give the voucher to the cashier with the school’s ID #10579308. Click here for a sheet of six vouchers to share with family and friends. Vouchers will also be available at the store on the day of the Book Fair.

Supporters anywhere can shop online beginning the day of the Book Fair. Go to www.BN.com/bookfairs and enter ID #10579308 at checkout. Online shopping continues for 5 days after the Book Fair ends.

Our school will receive a percentage of the total purchases which will go to books for our school’s Library.

Lower Elementary Special Person’s Day

This is a day for a special person to  discover what is so special about The Montessori School.

The idea that we don’t have to reinvent the wheel was striking. The example of thousands of Montessori schools is before us. Montessori puts the student at the center. It is proven to work.  As noted by Sivadlk it’s working on every inhabited continent, at every economic level. The approach is over 100 years old but the ideas are timeless. The world is finally catching up with Maria Montessori’s insights.

The Montessori School’s Sustainable Garden Project involves students in the stewardship of the school’s organic garden and landscape in a way that is wholly integrated with the school’s curriculum. We strive to encourage enthusiasm and wonder in learning by integrating classroom education with hands-on experience in the natural world. Students participate in food and garden-based activities that are interwoven with grade-appropriate math, science, social studies, and arts curricula. Our program is designed to educate students about the interconnected relationships of food, environment, ecology, communities, and cultural histories.
