Our Board President & the mother of two NHMS students, Lucinda Holt, forwarded this article from the New York Times, recognizing that
New Horizons is definitely doing the right things.
New York Times OP-ED Contributors:
There’s Only One Way to Stop a Bully
… our research on child development makes it clear that there is only one way to truly combat bullying. As an essential part of the school curriculum, we have to teach children how to be good to one another, how to cooperate, how to defend someone who is being picked on and how to stand up for what is right.
Teaching children how to get along will require much more than legislation, but a deeper rethinking of what schools should do for their students.

The New Horizons team members were blue ribbon winners at the Montgomery County Reading Olympics held at Hatboro-Horsham High School last Wednesday evening.
Reading Olympics is an annual celebration of reading aimed at increasing students’ reading for enjoyment. Thirteen 5th & 6th grade students have collaborated since January to read forty-five books, and at the event they answered questions about these books during three rounds. Fifty points are needed for team members to receive blue ribbons. The New Horizons team earned 62 points!
Congratulations to all of the members of the team!
Many thanks to the families who came out last Sunday to help with the family community service project. Despite sweltering August-like heat, the play area behind the gym was “woodchipped” and a good time was had by all in the process.
